Out of Place is a memoir written by Edward. W. Said in his old age after being an exile for most of his life. It describes his memory of the Arab world where he grew up, as well as his experiences and reflections of a nomadic life in contrast to settling down elsewhere.Reading the author’s multiple experiences is also a process for me to read my own experiences as an adult. Out of Place is also a query about the notion of “elsewhere” in Asia, which is a project I have been exploring for years. I now extract part of it as a footnote for the “REality” exhibition. What kind of “elsewhere” is Macao?

活躍於香港、歐美等地的香港藝術家梁美萍，以「香港製造」為名，諧仿一系列外銷畫形式、產製流程的油畫「創作」，她親自到著名的深圳畫家工廠－大芬村習畫、研究，與技師們共同描繪和「量產」作品，主題則選擇內地人來港觀光的印象式景點及典型化的港片影像，如香港迪士尼、維港星光夜景、金紫荊廣場、李小龍和古惑仔電影…等；藝術家藉著行銷內地自由行的香港景點此一行為過程，批判性地反思在地文化的影像消費與價值認證。「香港」標示著梁美萍的文化身份與在地品牌象徵，「製造」揭示了量化的生產、規格化、產業化與商業化；「香港製造」系列作品，即在藝術家的重新演譯下，再現全球化中的文化想像和消費社會，以及藝術原創/複製、觀念/製作間的思辨

理路。
